They were trying to find ways to attract new and old advertisers back to the magazine. One of the ways to do it was to devise a fresh face, which is what Lubalin’s job was. … On Lubalin’s drawing table we see the Saturday Evening Post from its earliest days on the right-hand side to his most current design, which he holds in his hand. …
Another interesting thing about this painting is actually the chair that Lubalin is seated on … It was made of bent plywood …And the modernist look and feel of that chair really expressed the newness of the … masthead that Lubalin holds in his hand. …
But the new masthead was actually to be very short-lived. In fact … it was used for less than a year before the Post reverted to their previous design.

Mujer: En esta imagen ahora podemos ver el retrato de un famoso diseñador gráfico estadounidense llamado Herb Lubalin, representado aquí, diseñando la nueva cabecera del Saturday Evening Post en 1961. Intentaban encontrar nuevas formas de atraer a la revista nuevos y viejos clientes publicitarios. Una de las formas de lograrlo era crear una nueva apariencia; y precisamente ese era el trabajo de Lubalin.
En la mesa de dibujo del artista podemos ver el Saturday Evening Post de antaño, a mano derecha, a su diseño más actualizado, el cual sostiene en la mano.
Otro aspecto interesante de esta pintura es la silla en donde Lubalin aparece sentado. Está hecha de madera terciada y doblada. El aspecto y la idea modernista que transmite esa silla expresaban la innovación del diseño de la nueva cabecera que Lubalin sostiene en la mano. Pero ese diseño tuvo una vida muy breve. De hecho, fue utilizado durante menos de un año, antes de que el Post readoptara el diseño anterior.
